I work with primarily English Language Learners and I have had amazing results using these vocabulary pages. They are based on the Core Knowledge philosophy in teaching vocabulary which is to see a word in context in order to build a definition. This technique also matches Common Core standards for vocabulary acquisition. I recommend teaching these pages over the course of a week. The numbered boxes and activities can be taught Monday through Thursday with a vocabulary or spelling test on Friday. Each numbered box is step up in Blooms. They align with research I completed about how to best teach vocabulary and get students to internalize the word for future use. Many teachers complain about students learning a word for a weekly test and then forgetting it. My students have not only remembered these words but continue to apply them months later even when we haven’t been using them in class!
