This lesson provides synonyms for commonly used words so that they can recognize meaning within a text.
It is also a lesson plan on how to teach context clues. It comes with a formal lesson plan write up as well as worksheets for students to work in a group and independently.
By introducing New Vocabulary to students in a fun, engaging, organized way, students are more likely to commit those new words to memory and start using them in daily language and in their writing.
Vocabulary is important to becoming a well-spoken adult and a distinguished writer.
This set of 4 units, introduces **16 new vocabulary words** to students.
Paragraphs allow students to use context clues to determine the meaning of the word, then students practice identifying each word and using the words in isolation. The final step to truly understanding the meaning of a word is through creation.
After students are confident that they understand the meaning of each word, they are able to play a synonym game and create pictures and cohesive paragraphs to show the meaning of each word.
Varying practice strategies engage students and help them to put these new vocabulary words into a bank of words they feel confident using.
This is my favorite activity to do with my class. I use it as a center as well as with a small group.
