Students will take this 11 question assessment to determine their ability to use context clues to determine unknown words. There are 4 passages, each have 2 underlined words and 2 corresponding multiple choice questions.
At the end, there is a brief, short answer written response for students to explain the "clues" they found to determine a word. This assessment could be used as practice as well or in a small group/guided reading group. This is appropriate for fourth or fifth grade students.
I have another context clues assessment here:
This product has the same structure, but it contains new passages and new vocabulary. This second assessment could be used for students who needed remediation on context clues, or they can be used together as a pre and post test. Using these two assessments together can help you to collect data and students and determine future plans and strategy groups.
