If there is one thing my students could always use more practice on, it's using context clues to determine the meaning of unknown words. I created this product as a way to review the steps and strategies we have been practicing this year to identify the meaning of a variety of types of words (vocabulary, figurative language, and roots). We are going to start a Context Clue Competition and complete one of these questions per day. However, there are many ways you could use this product, whether it's as a game, a review center, daily warm up, teaching whole group instruction, etc. This editable Power Point includes:
*Introduction/review on steps to take to determine the meaning of words
*Clues to look for, including synonyms, antonyms, examples, explanation/definition, word parts
*Multiple choice questions for vocabulary, nonsense words, idioms, and roots
Each slide includes the steps to take to determine the meaning of words, phrases, and/or roots, several sentences, an underlined word, phrase, or root, and multiple choice answers. Each question slide is followed by an answer slide. Please note that the nonsense word questions are the same as the vocabulary in context questions, the vocabulary word is just changed to a nonsense word. That way, you can choose whichever you prefer and feel would be best for your kiddos!
