Here's a hands-on, creative way to practice using context clues to identify the meaning of an unknown word, and it's just in time for Valentine's Day! This is an engaging activity where your students read several sentences and use context clues to define the underlined word. The finished products make a unique bulletin board or fun school hallway display! It can also be used as a novel entry in an interactive notebook!
There are two versions to allow for differentiation. Version A was designed for students in grades 4-5, or younger students who need a challenge. Underlined words include: deflate, devastated, enduring, fragrance, delectable, penetrated, pondered, and complex.
Version B was designed for students in 3rd grade, or older students who are reluctant readers. Underlined words include: stumped, bashful, toothsome, crowded, resist, comical, cherish, and overjoyed.
The document includes student-friendly directions (with photos) that can be projected for students to refer to throughout the work time! An answer key is also included.
