Description

As Common Core requires increasing levels of non-fiction, our students are likely to face more and more unfamiliar words. Learning to determine the meaning of unknown words using context clues is a vital skill- but sometimes it can be tough to teach!

Have you ever taught a context clues lesson, but felt like not all of your students really got a chance to practice the skill? Sometimes, one or two of my students already know the example words and they never need to depend on context clues. The perfect way around this? Teach context clues with nonsense words!

By using multisyllabic nonsense words, your students will never run into a word they already know- plus, the 'silly' words make it much more fun!

This unit includes:
- Teaching Notes
- Sample Anchor Charts
- Context Clues Practice - in sentences (2)
- Context Clues Practice- in sentences with writing (2)
- Context Clues Practice- in paragraphs (2)

Perfect for ESL/ ENL students and anyone who may struggle from a low vocabulary, this pack includes teaching suggestions and 6 practice pages to make sure your students learn this important skill!
