It is essential for students to comprehend what they are reading. Part of reading involves using other words in a sentence to understand a word that is unknown to them. Authors often include hints to help the reader grasp the meaning of the unknown word.
This resource includes 12 worksheets and passages. Each passage has an underlined word. Students will read a passage and determine the meaning of the underlined word. They will then explain why they chose that meaning. Lastly, students draw a picture of the passage.
novice, congested, envious, plethora, parched, minute, accomplice, aroma, tranquil, conceal, emaciated and vintage
While these words may seem difficult, the passages offer enough context clues for the reader to determine the meaning.
