Product Description
These 32 Common Core Task Cards will help your students practice the important reading strategy of using context clues to figure out word meanings. Each task card has a short story including a 6th grade vocabulary word and asks students to identify the meaning of the word from the choices given. This provides your students with a great opportunity for comprehension skills and vocabulary practice.

One of the awesome things about these task cards is that they give your students concentrated practice with context clues in a short amount of time. Using context clues is such a foundational reading strategy and the task cards are less intimidating than a full text, but still provide your students with lots of opportunities for practice.

I just love task cards and think they are such a versatile tool for the classroom. You can use them in a literacy center, in small groups, or even individually. They are perfect for those fast finishers and they are great to use as an end of the unit assessment. Another option is to use one card at a time with the whole class. I like to keep a stack of cards on my desk that go with whatever concept we're working on and pull a few of them out to do together whenever we have a few extra minutes.

My favorite way to use task cards though, is to use them as a rotational activity. Simply print out the record sheet for each child and station the cards at different places around the room. You can call "Scoot" after a few minutes and kids rotate to the next station. Or depending upon the class, you can let the kids rotate to any card that's open. I love to send them on this "scavenger hunt" in buddies because I like to hear the kids collaborating on their answers. Kids love the movement too and it's always neat to see them really enjoying an activity and learning at the same time.

The task cards can be printed in color or grayscale and can be laminated and used again and again. Baggies are great to store them in or you could hole punch each card's corner and put them all on a ring. A plastic shoebox with dividers works really well to keep them organized.

I am so excited to share these with you and hope that you will find them really helpful for your kids.
