Context Clues Vocabulary 5 Activity Bundle for Grade 3
Included in this bundle are 5 vocabulary context clues activities. Each activity is based on a particular book (see below). Each includes a cover page, a two page worksheet for students, and a two page answer key.
The Paper Bag Princess
Julius, The Baby of the World
Aunt Flossie’s Hats (and Crab Cakes Later)
I created these activities to supplement the 3rd Grade Making Meaning Program, but they don’t need to be used with Making Meaning they just use some of the same texts as used in Making Meaning. If you are using Making Meaning, the vocabulary words chosen from each story match with Making Meaning.
I have included a sample from one of the activities. Each activity follows the same format they just each use a different text. In each activity six vocabulary words are pulled from the text in their sentence of context. Students read the sentence and determine if the word is a noun, verb, adjective, or adverb. Then they make a guess as to what they think the word means based on the context clues in the sentence. They have to state why they think the word means that (what in the sentence helped them determine the meaning).
These activities are built off the Common Core Grade 3 Language Standard for Vocabulary Acquisition: CCSS.ELA-Literacy.L.3.4a: Use sentence-level context as a clue to the meaning of a word or phrase.
Each Activity is also on TPT separately for $1.25 (Use the links below.)
