This digital mini-lesson using the new presentation software Slide Rocket is an engaging way to teach the six common types of context clues (definition, example, description, clarification, parenthetical, comparison, and elaboration) using Lewis Carrol's "Jabberwocky." Students love reading this nonsense poem and using context clues to determine its meaning. I have embedded two video clips into the presentation - two versions to compare (aligned with Common Core standards). My 6th grade students especially enjoy Johnny Depp's version! If you are new to SlideRocket, you are in for a treat. It is like Powerpoint but much better! It is a free online presentation tool - check out SlideRocket.com to see details. For this presentation, all you have to do is download then click to advance the slides.
