Product Description
Your students will have an opportunity to practice using context clues while also focusing on character traits. I created this product for my own students as a test preparation activity. This product contains 48 task cards.

The cards come in pairs. On each A card, students read a sentence and identify the meaning of the underlined word (which is a character trait) from a list of multiple choice answers. On each B card, students, identify which type of context clue they used to determine the meaning of the underlined word.

Students will practice using the following five types of context clues:
synonym
antonym
example
inference
definition

(Open the preview to see how these cards are arranged.)

Students read the task card and record their answers on the recording sheet. An answer sheet is included.

Your students will read 24 different character traits in the context of sentences. I used both positive and negative character traits. Some of the words include: ambitious, efficient, rational, tolerant, diligent, arrogant, deceitful, mischievous, boisterous, and cowardly.

These can be used for independent practice as part of a center, or your students can do the popular scoot activity to complete the task cards with a partner. (I place a pair of cards- cards 1a and 1b, cards 2a and 2b, etc.- at different locations throughout the classroom, and I put a pair of students at each card. I set the timer for 1 minute. Students work together to read task cards and determine their answers. They also have to record their answers on their recording sheet. When the timer sounds, students rotate- or scoot- to the next card location. This continues until they have "scooted" their way through all of the task cards!)
