Using Context Clues: Vocabulary Scoot
Your students will love discovering the meanings of
unfamiliar words as they scoot around the room.
Each task card contains an underlined word that
your students will work to define using context clues
from the surrounding sentence(s).
Independent/partner practice: defining unfamiliar
words using context clues.
Directions: Cut out and hang the task cards around
your classroom. (I laminate my cards so I can use
them again or share them with other teachers!) Give
each student an answer sheet. The students will
complete two different tasks. For eight of the task
cards the students will select the meaning of the
underlined word, choosing from two choices. For the
other eight task cards the students will write their own
definition of the underlined word. The students will
record their answers on the answer document included.
