Last summer I took a course that inspired me to create this 27 lesson vocabulary unit. The focus is on teaching vocabulary in a contextual way and teaching fewer words each week. I used to teach ten words in addition to literary terms; this unit has five words per week and for each lesson I have the following: student sheets with boxes on one side for students to write definitions with a sentence below using the word contextually. On the other side are three questions about each of the words that are contextual in nature. For the teacher I have a sheet with the definitions of the words and stories to relate to the students to help cement the definitions. These stories make for great discussions. I have tests for each unit. I also have a roots, prefixes, and suffixes packet that is six pages with TONS of of examples. All of the above will be clearer when you look at the preview file I have included which is the procedure sheet and the first lesson. The only thing not included in the purchase of this product is the laminated cards of all the words that I created to velcro to the board every week. I use this with ninth grade, and I also have students use these words in writing. My district is giving me 85 Act 48 hours for creating this; it took more time than that. I have been using it all year, and I am very pleased with how it is going. This is a Microsoft Word file.
