When teaching vocabulary, it is essential for students to have context to find deep meaning. Giving a student a word in isolation, or without any meaningful context, will not build lasting connections in the student's brain. Context is key to building vocabulary!
I find so many (great!) resources that have vocabulary words on flashcards or in graphic organizers, but nothing with contextual meaning. I decided to try to change that, so I made these 40 task cards to share with fellow teachers.
These 40 numbered task cards will help your students understand prefixes on a deeper level than rote memorization. Students will be able to relate to the paragraphs for each prefix, and be able to use context clues to define the prefix meaning.
Great for whole class lesson introductions, morphology lessons, independent work, partner work, centers, or test review!
These will print the best in color (yay rainbows!) but greyscale will work too. Print single-sided! I like to laminate task cards for durability. I keep my task cards on a binder ring for easy use and storage!
I hope you and your students enjoy these task cards.
