is one of the best number sense and mental math games ever! It is one of our all-time favorites and a go-to activity for centers, small groups, or whole-group fun. You can integrate it into almost any grade level. Younger students develop number sense as they play. Older students are challenged to use the skills they’ve mastered. And it’s always fresh – never boring!
In my classroom, I have the game boards copied, laminated, and ready to go. I teach my students how to play and we practice together. We have number cubes ready and we use dry erase markers to cover numbers.
I want my students to be able to play Contig at home, too, so I’m sending a version with each one. More detailed instructions are included to go home. Foldable number cubes and markers are also included.
Copy the game boards on regular paper or card stock and laminate.
Make sure students have dry erase markers and erasers available. If you want to use game pieces as markers, use whatever you have available in your classroom.
Copy the game boards on paper or card stock. I would not laminate these due to the expense (I have 75+ students), but that is up to you.
The foldable number cubes and markers are printed on another page with directions at the bottom.. You might copy these on card stock for durability.
Each student will take home two sheets: a game board and a page with cubes, markers, and directions.
I highly recommend that you teach your students to play in the classroom and be sure they are confident before you send it home. You don’t want families to be confused or frustrated. It’s such a valuable game, I want everyone to love it!
