This year a student was placed in my classroom about a third of the way through the school year. This has happened before but this time the student wouldn't be speaking English...at all! Due to budget constraints she was not able to receive the direct English instruction she needed. So, I took it upon myself to design some activities based around the RosettaStone model to help her not only access social studies material but also work on her English skills.
The activity includes a vocab sheet for reference, reading, spelling, writing, and map practice activities. They do not take long but can be used more than once with time in between.
My student was 18 and appreciated the activities. I can see the activities appropriate for any level 1 ELL from middle through high school.
Depending on age and competence of your student this could take 15 to 25 minutes. It is a great supplement to activities you are already doing or if you have extra time at the end of class!
Check out my other activities that are done in the same style!
