Similar to 'Tetris', this great Literacy Center game is used to teach contractions of omission.
There are 4 focus contractions introduced in this resource:
1. NOT - ('nt) - introduces don't, can't, isn't, aren't, hasn't, didn't, haven't, weren't, couldn't, mightn't, won't.
2. WILL - ('ll) - introduces I'll, you'll, we'll, he'll, she'll, they'll, who'll, where'll, how'll, that'll, what'll.
3. HAVE - ('ve) - introduces I've, you've, we've, should've, they've, could've, would've, might've, must've, what've.
4. IS - ('s) - introduces he's, she's, there's, where's, that's, what's, how's, who's, when's, why's.
The games are simple to create - Just copy and laminate the game board(s) you need. Copy and laminate the colored 'blocks' that match the game board. These are all differing shapes and colors. Cut all the blocks out and place in a zip lock sandwich bag.
To play: Students will need to read the words on level 1 of the game board. From their zip lock bag of contractions on 'blocks', they must match the correct contraction to the 1st level. If correct, students should be able to get to level 10, creating a jigsaw 'tetris-like' block with no spaces.
Great for independent use in literacy centers!
