The difference between this file and my other listed under Contraction Canines is that I've created over 20 contraction dogs for you! All you have to do is print them, laminate, and fold. I've chosen a few from each of the categories of contractions, with main emphasis on the "NOT'S".
I used this activity for Workshop time (OPEN COURT) for differentiated instruction. If you have language arts centers, it is essentially what workshop time was. Great for small group work with or without the teacher. For accountability, students can write down 10 of their favorite contractions; the two words, and then the contraction they create. Have them check for correct placement of the apostrophe, and any unnecessary letters (Specifically for the "NOTS" and "HAVE'S".)
As a reminder, this hands-on activity shows students the before and after of each contraction. Thus, the dog gets shorter when it is folded, just like the contraction is a shortened version of two words. Great for visual and kinesthetic learners!
If you'd like to save some money and create your own contractions by writing on blank dogs, then see my other posting for Contraction Canines Do-it-Yourself. Thanks!
**IF YOU CHOOSE TO PURCHASE THIS ACTIVITY, PLEASE LEAVE ME FEEDBACK...I'VE SOLD A FEW OF THESE AND WOULD LIKE TO KNOW WHAT YOU THINK OF IT! Thanks.
