PRODUCT DESCRIPTION

This lesson is meant to cover 2 – 3 lessons depending on the amount of discussion generated in your class. This lesson allows students to engage in thought provoking conversation about intentions and perspectives when interpreting print advertisements – specifically public service announcements. When considering this lesson, please bear in mind that your class should already have an understanding of public service announcements, and that a certain level of maturity will be needed to address some potentially sensitive subject matter.

Ontario media literacy curriculum expectations addressed include 1.2 – interpreting media texts using overt and implied messages, 1.4 – exploring why different audiences might have different responses to media texts, and 1.5 – identifying whose point of view is presented in a media text and any missing or alternative points of view.
