The conventions club is a club to help promote the use of proper conventions in writing. The teacher is the club president and makes all the rules. Kids who use proper conventions are the members!
This includes two posters and Convention Club Member cards.
Poster #1: Conventions Club Rules
Poster #2: Conventions Club Members
Posters are printed on 4 separate pages each. You will need to glue/tape the 4 pages together and then laminate if you choose.
As teacher and club president, you decide who is in the conventions club based on their writing. Students can be added to or removed from the club at any time. You decide on the special privileges club members receive. I allow club members to write in pen (they LOVE this). Before writer's workshop whenever I choose I give club members a special and simple activity that they get to do for 5-10 minutes before they write. This could be drawing, working on a math game with a partner or anything else that you come up with! I love how flexible this is and motivating to students. While members of the Conventions Club are enjoying their time other students are working diligently to make sure their conventions are perfect!
