This packet of 36 sets of conversation cards will get young kids interacting with each other. They don't have to read a thing! Just match up the colorful shapes and then they can talk about how the items on their cards are alike and how they are different. Just copy, laminate, cut out and you will be ready to get kids talking and listening to each other.
I always start this activity off with a review of good listening and speaking skills. Can't hurt to let them know ahead of time the expectations for participation.
There are 36 sets of cards (enough for 72 people) so select ahead of time the cards you want to use putting them in pairs with matching graphics. Then drop all those cards into a funny hat or decorated box. Each participant will draw out a card, find their match, and begin talking and listening to each other with conversation based on the similarities and differences of their pictures.
Change cards and partners every 2-3 minutes. This makes for less chance of behavior problems. A fast paced pair and share keeps things interesting!
You can vary who goes first: the tallest person in the pair, the shortest, the one with the biggest feet, the one with the longest hair, most blue, etc.
Kids love talking to each other and this gives them a chance to do it "legally". They will learn more about each other as they share their answers.
These cards could be used for a birthday party mingler, a Boy/Girl Scout troop meeting, church social, or anywhere there are people who like to visit with each other.
Use over and over again because it is not very likely that the same partners will get the same questions for each other.
