New! A winter-themed set adds 36 new cards to a best selling resource. Do you have any students who struggle with feeling shy or awkward in social settings? Have you noticed those children who don’t seem to know how to engage others in lasting conversation? For some kids, this can lead to difficulty forming friendships and as they grow up, social anxiety. What if we could intervene at a younger age to help guide and coach them on conversational skills and friendship building?
The 36 cards in this set feature winter-themed topics of conversation that will engage kids on subject matter such as holidays, friendships and winter activities.
When adults suggest asking a question, often children ask one-word-answer questions and struggle with keeping a discussion going. It can shake their confidence when they doubt they know what to say next.
These conversation cards have a “Starting Question” to get things going, and then a more open ended “Follow-up Question” to illicit a longer response. They are a confidence building tool box that provide role play and practice opportunities.
In addition to practicing in small groups or one-on-one, this resource includes 4 different comic strip template worksheets for students to visually process through an imagined conversations, based on the questions on the cards. Comic strip speech bubbles and super hero character templates are included, for tracing or cut and paste.
These would also be a great addition to an English Language Learners classroom.
