Using scrabble letters and conversation heart sayings students will calculate mean, median, mode, and range by color. Students will also create a stem and leaf plot, make a bar graph, and calculate the probability of their conversation hearts. With over 30 boxes of conversation hearts students will each have a different project to complete. This set includes 8 handouts for students to complete during their project. Directions are also included for the teacher and the student on how to complete each section of this project.
Give each student a set of conversation hearts.
There are over 30 choices to give your students. I teach more than one block of math. That’s I created so many. This way every student has a different box of conversation hearts. Just like when you buy real boxes of conversation hearts, you never know what you’re going to get! Some of the sets have more hearts than others. I did this so that my more advanced students could be challenged with more hearts and my special needs students would only have to complete a certain amount of hearts. You can cut the hearts out yourself or you have your students cut out their own hearts. It is completely up to the teacher. I like to cut them out ahead of time to mix and match the sets. I also included extra hearts if you want to use them other activities.
Conversation Hearts Math aligns with Virginia SOLs 5.14, 5.15, and 5.16
