Product Description
This assignment teaches kids about how cool language is and has them learn about alliteration, assonance, simile, visualization, and rhyme scheme. It is just an introduction to those ideas with a Valentine's twist. The kids will use 3 conversation hearts (these can be candy you buy, or I have a page of printed ones they can paste) to create a rap or a poem that follows the structures and figurative language we discuss in the analysis portion of the assignment.

The rap they analyze is "Grind" by Swollen Members. It is clean and school appropriate. The song talks about going through trials and fixing mistakes. It does not swear or reference drugs or sex.

The poem is by Theodore Roethke, "My Papa's Waltz." It is a cool poem that can have multiple interpretations based on the connotations of words and personal background and visualization skills.
