This powerpoint presentation can be used in social skills groups to introduce, review, and practice the skills involved in starting conversations in social settings. I have used this powerpoint with my sixth grade social skills groups to jumpstart the discussion on how to begin conversations with new friends or adults that the students do not know. It would also be great for lower functioning students or elementary level students at any level.
First the slides go over various ways to start a conversation with someone and provide opportunities for the students to participate by providing specific examples. Then it provides time to practice the skills within the group and a short review at the end.
