Social skills activities don't always need to be task cards and worksheets! However, I do love my task cards...
But sometimes, my students just need a change to keep therapy fun and stimulating! A lot of my students really enjoy having a "hands on" approach to social skills activities as they feel more involved and put their own personal spin on what they are doing. This also helps to keep them engaged through a whole session! A lot of my students with social language difficulties tend to absolutely love expressing their creative side, too, so they see these fortune tellers as a total win! (And we get to target some important social skills while we're at it...!)
Who remembers fortune tellers at school!? Who remembers how much fun it was to flap the corners as you eagerly wait to find out what answer you land on!? Bring that fun and excitement into your speech sessions with this activity!! Once you have made your tellers, practice holding conversations for a nominated amount of time on whichever topic you land on each time.
This resource will help your students practice holding a conversation and staying on topic (and choosing topics, too, if you let them make and customise their own teller in the process).
Regular education teachers, special education teachers, SLPs, or other support professionals could all benefit from using these task cards with their students. These cards can be used for students of any age who need some help and support.
These tellers can be used as a therapy task for students who are having difficulty with conversation/social skills, OR.... you could also use these tellers as a "get to know your peers" activity in the classroom!
*This activity can be used for an individual, a small group or a class*.
