Teaching conversational skills has always been a bit tricky for me. I would search for resources that broke down conversations piece by piece, but was never able to find visuals or programs that broke them down far enough for the students I worked with. This product is a collection of activities and visual supports that I’ve been using in my therapy sessions.
This product includes:
-The Listening position: an explanation of what your position should be during a conversation and WHY.
-Short comments: gives a list of short comments you can using in response to statements your communication partner makes
-Connected comments: discusses topic maintenance and it’s importance
-Initial Questions: addresses questions that can be used once a person greets another.
-Follow up questions: gives a list of initial questions words that can be used to follow up a statement that your communication partner makes.
Each of these topics has an activity that reinforces the concepts in a practical way.
I hope you find these activities and visual supports as helpful as I have!
