Vocabulary in the class often means looking up a given word in the dictionary, writing a sentence about it, and drawing a picture. This process usually results in students never using the word again. Truly comprehending vocabulary entails SPEAKING the word in a self-constructed sentence. Therefore, students will be given exemplar sentences that use the designated vocabulary words. The sentences have been written about content that appeals to middle school students, so they can apply it to their lives beyond classroom walls, and comprehend the words quicker. Students must then create a new sentence of their own, and verbalize it to classmates. This resource has a technology extension embedded within it, but it can easily be omitted.
Although these are specific 7th Grade Common Core Vocabulary words, many of these are also found on the 6th Grade and 8th Grade lists. There are many sentences here, so it is recommended that these are done in chunks, and they would work well for review before standardized testing.
