Students practice capacity conversions of gallons, quarts, pints, and cups by cutting 4 different colored templates and laying them over each other to compare the measurements. You can have students practice fractions and cut construction paper to use as manipulatives or copy the templates onto 4 different colors of paper.
There is a student sheet where they work out conversions using the manipulatives and a sheet with word problems to practice the conversion skills in situations.
An answer key is included.
I have used this activity with 4th through 7th graders. The 4th graders did need more support especially converting the measurements with fraction answers.
