Description
This converting fractions to decimals game, called Decimal Dice, is an engaging math game that provides LOTS of fraction to decimal conversion practice.
Benefits of this fractions to decimals conversion game:
- Students will get lots of practice changing fractions to decimals
- Students will better remember some of the common fraction to decimal conversions
- Depending on their skill level, students will find strategies to help them score higher than their ‘competitors’
In this easy-prep game:
- Students roll four dice
- Combine the dice into fraction pairs
- Find the decimal or whole number equivalence of those fractions (examples are included in the instructions)
Prep for the game:
- Group students into partners or groups of 3-4 (partners will keep the game moving more quickly)
- Copy a score card for each student.
- Each score card has room for three games to be played (OR each game on the score card could be used for a different player)
- Students may need some guidance during their first few turns, to help them understand the rules/scoring.
What teachers are saying about this resource:
⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ “My students loved rolling all of the dice and figuring the fractions!! This is a fun game, yet they are learning at the same time!! Thank you for keeping that hidden, the learning part!! Thank you for creating such a learning activity!!”
⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️“My tutoring student loved playing this game. There is a bit of strategy involved in choosing how to use the numbers rolled. The game offers repeated practice of turning fractions to decimals which helped my student memorize the conversions she needed to know for her class without feeling like she was doing work to do so.”
⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️“I love how engaging this activity is! I have used it as an activity for my students when they finish their practice for the day. They love games like this, and it is simple enough for me to explain to a couple of students, and then they teach others who are interested in playing while I help other students with their practice.”
⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️“Students really enjoyed this. I ended up laminating the score sheets so that we can use again easily!”
