Deciding to borrow, or not, when presented with a double digit subtraction problem can be difficult. Teachers are encouraged to meet the needs of different learners by providing them with a variety of ways to approach these problems.
This approach uses visuals and storytelling while providing your students with another way to process double digit subtraction with borrowing.
You will meet four characters who explain the subtraction process while cooking up a delicious plate of spaghetti and pizza.
You are provided with the family story, character descriptions, props, setup directions, and two math problems complete with dialogue. Your students will love acting out the story of Mama Mia, and the story will give them another tool for their toolbox when they come across these types of math problems.
Just set up the props and act out the story with your students. They will enjoy using an accent and playing along with you.
