Use these cookie fraction manipulatives any time you need a visual fraction model for teaching fractions. This set contains two different sizes of cookies: approximately 8 inches and 5 inches in diameter.
This set includes one whole, halves, thirds, fourths, fifths, sixths, and eighths. Each fraction comes in both the 8-inch cookie and the 5-inch cookie. Also included are circular gray "cookie pans," which are the same size as the black outline around each cookie.
Make as many copies as you need, for as many sets as you will need for use in your class (cardstock is recommended). Cut out the cookies along the black circle, then cut apart the fractions along the white lines. Laminate, if desired. Some suggestions for use:
-Use large cookies for whole-class demonstrations, and small cookies for manipulatives in centers.
-Glue a magnet to the back of each piece, or use tape, so you can stick them to the board or wall.
-Use halves, fourths, and eighths, or thirds and sixths, to show equivalent fractions.
-Use the whole cookie and fractions together to show mixed numbers.
-Have students place their cookie fractions on the round gray “cookie pan,” to help them visualize their fraction compared to the whole.
-Print multiple copies of each fraction, so students can add (or even multiply) larger numbers of fractions, or make equivalent fractions of mixed numbers.
This set is also part of a bundle: Cookie Fractions Bundle
