I made this activity because I have many students working on categories! I wanted a new engaging activity to target this skill. This activity would go great with any food themes! Kids love cookies so this activity is sure to get their attention! I used easily recognizable and functional vocabulary in this activity!
Now includes a FREE large version! I had requests for a bigger version for students with vision and fine motor difficulties (a feedback addition!) The large version has full page boards and the regular version has 1/2 page boards.
I made this for speech therapy but you could also use it in prek/k or in special education classrooms!
What is included in this download:
• 10 Cookie Jar Category Boards and their cookies
(5 cookies per board).
• A set of easy cut/card cookie cards for a lower prep option (no need for velcro)
• 1 Set of Name the Category Cards (27 cards)
• 1 Set of Name Items in a Category Cards (27 cards)
• 2 Color/Craft Pages (Color-A-Jar and Design-A-Jar)
• 4 Cookie Jar Go-Together Worksheets
• 4 Category Matching Worksheets
Cookie Jar Category Boards: Have the students sort the cookies into the correct cookie jar. You can customize this activity to your student’s needs (doing one or more boards at a time). You can also increase the level of difficulty by putting more cookie choices in front of the student at at time. You can assemble the velcro version or use the easy cut/cards version for a lower prep option (student will place card on the correct cookie jar).
Card Decks: The Name the Category cards require the student to look at the pictures and tell you the category. The Name Items in a Category cards require the student to name 3 objects in the category listed (I put three cookies on these cards to cue them to name all 3).
Color/Design a Jar. Have your student color a cookie jar at the end of the activity for a fun wrap up of the lesson. You could also make this a following directions or color identification activity too! The Design-A-Cookie Jar page is an open canvas for the student to draw, paint, or glue fun things to! Have fun with it! You can put your students’ creations up in the hall or around your room!
Cookie Jar-Together Worksheets: These are a great way to reinforce the concept! The student has to draw a line from the category to the 2 objects that go with it. These are great to send home as homework!
Cookie Jar Category Matching: The student has to draw lines to match the category with its objects. These are great to send home as homework too!
I have 2 other themed category products available:
