With this Common Core aligned “Cookie Ten Frame” packet, your student will work with ten frames to make sums of 10. This packet starts off by introducing a girl named Emily who is baking cookies for the bake sale at her school. She needs help putting ten cookies on each of her cookie sheets. Your students will help Emily by completing 3 different worksheets in which he/she must work with ten frames and make sums of 10. On the first worksheet, Emily has some cookies on her cookie sheets already, but needs to know how many more cookies she needs to make 10. Students will draw in the remaining cookies and write how many more she needs on the adjacent line. On the second worksheet, students must look at the two cookie sheets and identify the number of cookies. Below they must write the number model for what they see. On the third worksheet, students must draw in their own cookies on the blank cookie sheets so that their total is ten. For example, if they draw 4 cookies on the first cookie sheet, they must draw 6 on the second. Below they write the number model for what they drew.
Along with the 3 different worksheets, I have included cookie themed ten frames. There is one easier set which includes numerals, and one more difficult set that does not include numerals. Students will use these ten frames in the game Ten Frame Slapjack (Directions included). These ten frames can also be used for Go Fish and Memory, or simply be put on display in the classroom. The last part of this packet includes a large cookie sheet ten frame mat and 10 larger cookies. The intention of these items is for children to have their own ten frame mat in which they can manipulate pieces and work with the ten frame kinesthetically. These items can be used whole group, in math centers, or while the students are completing the worksheets.
