Need a fun Halloween activity or just a great recipe to go along with a great book? This lesson incorporates making a "green monster" out of vanilla pudding and chocolate cookies. The first slide contains a YouTube link to the "Go Away, Big Green Monster!" song and video. Students can listen to the song to get them excited for what they are about to make. The slide show proceeds with step by step directions on how to make your green monster, including some ideas on how to make a monster face.
This lesson is great for practicing liquid measuring as it uses 2 cups for each package of pudding. My students loved using the liquid measuring cup to make the recipe. You can also use higher math skills by determining the number of packages needed and how much milk is needed altogether (ex: If we need 4 packages and each package needs 2 cups we need 8 cups altogether)
Always remember to check for food allergies before doing cooking lessons with your students. For students who are lactose intolerant or have a milk allergy green Jell-o can be substituted.
