This is a recipe with step by step instructions presented in a power point presentation for "Penguin Pie". It is an ice cream sandwich cake that is assembled with layers of hot fudge and cool whip. My Special Education students love to cook and it is a great way to work on following directions, sequencing, vocabulary, math skills and daily living skills. This recipe is great to go with any winter unit or a unit on Antarctica. Could also be a great accompaniment to a "Frozen" party!
Sometimes I have some very literal kiddos that think we are actually eating a penguin!! So I usually start this lesson by telling them what the recipe is called and asking them if they think we are actually going to eat a penguin! That leads to the opportunity to ask the students why they think we are calling this recipe "Penguin Pie".
Always make sure to check for food allergies in your class. I was able to find all peanut free products using this recipe! I was super happy about that!
I hope you enjoy making this recipe with your class as much as I did! Your kids will gobble it up in no time!
Feel free to edit the power point to meet your needs.
