Students often times have trouble remembering how many beats each of the rhythmic note values receive. I believe this is because they do not have an understanding of how the notes are related to one another. This worksheets integrates math, cooking and music notes. students are taught to discover on their own, through measuring, how the notes relate. In the math word this is called proportional relationships. In order to complete this lesson the teacher will need to provide whole, half and quarter measuring cups as well as something to measure out. I have used dried beans in the past but anything will work as long as it can be measured. This is a fun, hands on activity that allows students to make clear connections between areas of study.
