Do you have students that need a strategy to calm themselves down from big emotions? This three step system takes students from unruly to calm in a simple, but effective manner.
The Three Step System
STEP 1: THINK ABOUT IT- Asks the student to identify how they are currently feeling using an illustrated emotions scale.
STEP 2: CHANGE IT- Instructs the student to take three deep breaths and then count down from ten with several prompts to change their current mood. (Think about something you like to do with your family, If you could have any superpower, what would it be, etc.)
*This portion is also editable, so you can line your countdown with prompts to fit your classroom needs.
STEP 3: CELEBRATE IT- Asks the student to reassess their mood using the emotions scale. If they are still upset, they are encouraged to try step 2 again. If they have successfully changed their mood, it tells them to do a happy dance!
