“Cool Quiz” assessments presentation (copyrights R. Higgins) is a virtual, common-core math center, tailored to the individual. Each math question in one of six 9 x 9 grids, opens as a single slide in normal mode when it is left-clicked on. All elements (multiple answers, rulers, tools, etc.) necessary to solve the question on the slide are available in the surrounding gray-colored work- region. These elements are to be dragged and dropped onto the slide as needed. Answers are dragged onto a robot’s (TV screen) monitor. The student checks if his answer is correct by viewing the slide in slide- show mode. Only those answers which are correct are visible in the robot’s monitor when viewed in slide-show mode. Wrong answers are invisible. Special effects are used to make feedback interesting. In addition, there are two self-grading sets of multiple-choice assessments in the presentation. A customizable calendar, for tracking the monthly frequency of student use of Cool Quiz, is included and can be integrated seamlessly into the program if so desired. This program requires an earlier version of PowerPoint (such as PP 97-2000 and some later versions) enabling embedded presentations to show.
