This game illustrates different scenarios specific to students in same-sex relationships, and harassment they may receive. It asks students to vote on whether the scene is cool or not and what are appropriate responses. A brief discussion between each scenario should occur.
The issues for teens who do not identify as heterosexual can be enormous in the high school years. Many students, LGBT or not, are targeted for bullying by students who perceive any difference in peers as a cue to confront and harass. Subtle homophobia, comments, and actions against students can have a lasting effect. Diversity comes in many packages, and students need to learn the value and appreciation of all differences to make their school a safe space.
Included: Cool/ Not Cool cards, instructor scenarios
Concept: This game is an overview of values relating to topics on same-sex relationships, gender, gay, lesbian, and bisexual issues in school, and the harassment of students. The instructor will read out a scenario and students hold up the Cool or Not Cool side of the card which reflects how they feel about the situation.
