This is a scaffolded activity to breakdown the steps of writing a claim, evidence, reasoning conclusion paragraph. Students are given background information to explain how the data was gathered. The students will need to analyze the data and extrapolate to determine the missing numbers. Students will then identify the minimum and maximum crystal size based on the data table. They will create a graph using the data table to help them visual the relationship between the variables. The will use a template to write the claim based on the relationship between the independent and dependent variables. They will use an outline to write the evidence sentences utilizing the minimum and maximum data. They will explain why the evidence supports the claim. Finally, they will take all parts and write a conclusion paragraph. In addition, there is a follow up to check their work and a rubric to assess their final paragraph.
