In this PYP PE designed Cooperative Games Unit Plan, the central idea is focused on playing cooperative games that promote the development of gross motor skills, understanding game rules and components, sharing of ideas and decisions and learning to work together in teams toward a common goal. In this 6 week 12 lesson unit, students participate in a range of fun warm-up games, cooperative group activities and cooperative team games. A player develops beyond the game when they practice more than skills and rules, but communication, cooperation and collaboration. Students will be introduced to various levels of cooperative activities and games, building strategies, working together through play and practice, calling penalties and resolving conflicts. In the final games project, students will learn more about the development, form and function of games through the process of creative design. In groups, they will have an opportunity to create and design new and original games as well as present, demonstrate and play their games together as a class. Additional alternative games options are also listed at the end of the unit for more added fun! A fun, engaging and creative games unit that will inspire your students through play and imagination!
