This is a nifty little tool inspired by Kagan that has so many purposes. The idea is you use it as your table card in the center of each table of 4 students max. Tables of 4 are the most ideal for cooperative learning.
Kagan suggests a number of different structures for cooperative learning such as a Single Round Robin. In this case you suggest a question the students must answer or a topic they must discuss. You choose a student to start, such as Student 2 and they go around Round Robin style.
For example, when getting ready for Daily 5 I would call a number and that student from each table would be responsible for getting the reading bin for their table which hold the students book baggies.
If I need to make groups quick I might say all the 1s go to the carpet. All the 2s go to the front of the room etc.... Or you could pair students up. I might say the students at table A and U (my tables are named after the vowels) buddy up with your number. ALSO! You will notice that their is either an A or a B next to each students number. The A and B across from each other are "face partners" and the A and B next to each other are "shoulder partners. Sooo you can call "shoulder partners" when pairing students up for what ever it may be or you can switch it up and call "face partners".
You get the point! It is very versatile and that is why I love it. The possibilities are endless!
