The cooperative workshop model is a cooperative learning style that utilizes student-centered learning strategies to engage students, apply information and develop life-long learning skills. The teacher no longer is the “sage on the stage” but rather a model and facilitator of learning.
Common Core State Standards require students to build reading, writing, problem-solving and application competencies. The teacher is suppose to teach less content and more skills. Cooperative learning is the perfect model to teach students strategies and skills and for the student to apply those skills to study content.
Use this starter kit to learn more about the cooperative workshop model and to download forms, posters and rubrics. A sample lesson is included with the starter kit.
