Cooperative learning is hugely beneficial for students, but often relies a lot on productive student interactions. Helping may seem like an easy concept, but students need to be taught explicitly what the four kinds of helping are, and given time to practice. This set of classroom posters introduces the four kinds of helping: Asking for help appropriately, Offering to help respectfully, Accepting help graciously, and rejecting help kindly. I also included an anchor chart to talk about what helping looks like and sounds like, and a helping self-assessment for students to use. We used this in my class this year, and the quality of student interactions improved vastly! Suddenly our cooperative learning time was so much more productive. Enjoy!
