This Notebook file contains an introduction to coordinate graphing. Starting with two number lines that students move to create a coordinate grid. Followed by a slide in which students drag each important term onto the coordinate grid (origin, quadrants, x-axis, etc). Then students are introduced to how to locate a coordinate point (right or left and then up or down). They write the coordinates of 3 points in each quadrant and then study the coordinates for patterns. For example, everything in quadrant I is (+,+). These labels are dragged to each quadrant. This is followed by interactive practice in which students write coordinates or plot a point. The final slide is a link to a catchy song on the web for helping to remember what they have learned. I use foldable notes with my students as we do this lesson (one of my other postings).
