This project is a fun and simple way to help students solidify their understanding of working with linear equations on the coordinate plane. This mini project emphasizes the concepts of slope and finding the equation of a line using slope and coordinate point information.
Students create a drawing on the coordinate plane with 10 line segments. Then, they identify two points on each line segment, the slope of each line segment, and the equation of each line segment.
This project description comes with: a single-point grading rubric, a "line segment info sheet" to help students organize information, a reference sheet that contains slope formula and the different linear equation formats.
I suggest assigning this as independent work for students to complete over the course of one week as homework. Provide the students with one working class period where they can workshop with peers and ask any questions that come up.
