Students can work individually, in pairs, or in groups to create silly compound sentences using coordinating conjunctions a.k.a. FANBOYS. For, and, nor, but, or, yet, so! Complete with directions, activity, and recording sheet.
Directions: Cut the strips out along the lines. Place all blue “silly sentences” face down in a pile and the red coordinating conjunctions face down in a separate pile (You could also place in cups or plastic bags.) Have students randomly pick two blue sentences and one coordinating conjunction to create a new compound sentence. They must rewrite the new sentence with correct punctuation on the recording sheet. This can be done individually, as partners, or as group work. Have fun!
I have added a new page of sentences that the students might find easier to use with "nor" and "yet."
