Deciding when and where to use commas can be very tricky. I am a second year fourth grade writing teacher trying to make quality products for my students. I learned a lot about sentence structure last year. I am applying that knowledge to target specific areas of need. Combining sentences proved to be one of those hard to understand rules. Coordinating conjunctions play a huge role in combining sentences. Please use this resource in whole group to introduce the different ways to use coordinating conjunctions or even in small group to practice the skill with struggling students. Keep looking for more products. I am constantly taking my lessons and creating hands on activities to practice particular skills. You could also use the activity as an assessment to see which students already understand this skill. Pass out a card to every student and have them decide comma or no comma.
