This classroom guidance lesson works best over a 45-60 minute session or 2 30-minute sessions. It is also helpful to have a parent volunteer or counselor intern to help facilitate. Students create a "rest area" box or bag with a calm down bottle and a journal to use during times with tough feelings.
Includes lesson plan (objectives, outline, materials list, ASCA standards alignment), journal printable, label printable, and objectives assessment checklist.
Additional materials needed for lesson: 1 shoebox per student OR 1 gallon re-sealable bag per student, 1 small water bottle per student, glue, markers, scissors, tape, glitter, additional paper for journal fill, super glue, and staplers.
I use this lesson with fourth grade, but it is appropriate for grades 4-5.
